7th and 8th grade students in Larson’s Innovation Incubator elective course have worked hard during the past five weeks to create innovations or inventions that meet real-world needs. Each student has taken a concept through the design thinking process, starting with an idea, creating a prototype, and developing a presentation. The culminating activity was to pitch the innovation or invention to a panel of judges in the Shark Tank (modeled after ABC’s hit reality series). We would like to thank the following individuals and the companies/organizations for which they work for volunteering their time and effort as Shark Tank judges: Nicole Foco (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), Franco Mancini (Mancini/Ward Architectural Design), Stephanie Trotter (Troy School District), Jennifer Jabour (Troy Beaumont Hospital), Dr. Rich Machesky (Troy School District), Eric Doyle (BorgWarner), Karl Schmidt (Emicity), Rick West (Troy School District), Michelle Youngblood (Keller Williams Realty), and Dieter Fugmann (BorgWarner). They provided the student innovators with real-world experience as they asked pointed questions and thoughtful feedback.
