The Larson Middle School Robotics Club grew to seven teams this year and included 70 students. Our middle school students participate in the First Tech Challenge. Each year a new challenge is released in early September and teams participated in several qualifying tournaments in November and December. The Omegabots and Rebel Droids were both Design Award Finalists. The Omegabots also were Rockwell Collins Innovate Awards Finalists, Motivate Award Finalists and the Judge’s Award Winner. The Robosonics were Think Award Finalists. Both Robosonics and Omegabots progressed to the semi-final rounds at their tournaments. The Robo Rebels won the final round with their alliance at their qualifying tournament and advanced to the State Tournament in Battle Creek Dec 14-15 to compete with 96 other teams from Michigan. At the State Tournament, their alliance won their Division and in the final round lost 2-1. Overall, their alliance took second place at the State Tournament and will now advance to participate in the FIRST Super Regionals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa March 15-17, 2018. Larson Robotics Club would like to thank all their sponsors including: Automotive Technical Solutions, Ford, FESTO, McNaughton-McKay Electric company, the Larson PTO, DTE, Consumers Energy and FIRST in Michigan. We also want to thank Larson Middle School for building space to hold meetings and practices. The Troy Hammerhead FRC team #226 (Troy’s combined High School Robotics team) also supported us this year with high school mentors on several of our teams and provided practice field space and assistance with some fabrication of robot parts. Our club is completely run by volunteers, so we greatly appreciate our volunteer coaches and parents who helped guide the students through the design, building and programming of the robots. These teams all spent many hours preparing for their tournaments. For more information about the Larson Middle School Robotics Club check out our website at the link below. We will begin recruitment for the 2018-19 school year in late April - May 2018.
