Scheduling information for the 2025-2026 school year will be sent home with students and sent to parents from elementary buildings.
Feb. 28, 2025: Registration Opens
2025-2026 School year registration OPENS for 5th grade students and families in PowerSchool Parent Portal.
March 7, 2025: Registration Closes
2025-2026 School year registration CLOSES for 5th grade students and families in PowerSchool Parent Portal.

2025-2026 Grade 6 Course Selection Information
Your ONLINE REGISTRATION must be completed on PowerSchool by Friday, March 7th at 3:00 p.m. If it is not, your elective may be chosen for you.
Please choose ONE of the following classes for sixth grade:

Art 6 (Full year EOD*)
Art 6 provides a study of the elements and principles of art through experiences with a different art media and tools in design and creation. Students will identify and compare artwork across time and culture. Students will evaluate art and describe both the elements of art and their reactions to the works.

Instrumental music classes initially reinforce the skills presented in the fifth grade and then progress to new areas of study, preparing students for every-day, full ensemble experiences. Sixth-grade students choosing this exploratory core should have taken band or orchestra in the fifth grade or formal instruction prior to their entry into middle school. Public performance may occur as an outgrowth of classroom activities.

Physical Education (Full Year EOD)
Physical Education 6 (Full year EOD*)
The physical education program will be run as either a yearlong, every-other-day program or as an everyday, semester class. The focus of the program (a combination of cardio-respiratory fitness program with games, skills development, and recreational activities) is designed to help students develop a lifelong, positive attitude toward physical activity. The course also helps students develop the necessary skills to appreciate and participate in team and individual sports and recreation activities.

Vocal Music 6 (Full Year EOD)
Vocal Music 6 (Full year EOD*)
Vocal Music 6 builds on the knowledge, skills and understanding developed through the elementary school program. Students in this course will experience singing in unison as well as in parts. There will be an emphasis placed on proper vocal techniques and sight-reading skills.
EOD = Every Other Day
Elective course classes meet every other day and alternate with Physical Education.

How to Schedule
6th Grade Scheduling 2025-2026 School Year
The Troy School District utilizes a three-step virtual course registration process through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Below you will find instructions on how to setup the PowerSchool Parent Portal, 6th Grade School Registration Cards, instructions on how to register for courses, and important dates.
STEP 1:
Review Course Guide
Review the course description guide and grade level registration cards to identify elective choices with your child. These are for your use, they do not need to be printed or returned.

STEP 2:
Register for Classes
Register for classes for the 2025-26 school year. Your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account will be used for scheduling your child's classes and will be OPEN for you to use - Friday, Feb. 28, 2025. You will use the instructions below to schedule your student for the 2025-26 school year.
Registration Instructions:

Log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal with your USERNAME and PASSWORD.
- Click Class Registration from the navigation menu. The Class Registration page will open.
- Click the Pencil icon (top-right) to select courses from each area. The Course Request pop-up window will appear. All students are automatically enrolled in ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education.
- Select Alternative Selections after your initial requests are made. Alternative Selections should differ from your initial requests.
- Click SUBMIT, after all selections have been made.
